Historic site

A New York State historic marker records a tavern built about 1781 by John Fonda of the Tryon County Militia. The original structure was later altered/divided, but the site remains historically identifiable.

Family significance

This is one of the clearest examples of a place tied to a named Fonda family member rather than merely carrying the surname.
