Historical name
Early sources describe “Fonda’s Bush” as a settlement in the Johnstown region named for Major Jelles Fonda, who held a patent for the land. “Bush” was frontier usage for wooded country.
Modern location
The old settlement area corresponds to modern Broadalbin. The historic name remained in local use even as official place names changed.
